Operating Room Nurse
Job Description
The Surgical Institute of Alabama is an Ambulatory Surgery Center located on the ground floor of the Vestavia Medical Plaza. The center has 6 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms. The center welcomes patients to a soothing environment that does not imitate the rigors of rival hospitals. Patients are treated in a concierge environment from check-in to discharge. The center, designed beyond any minimal standards, has larger pre-operative and post-operative bays to give comfortable surroundings for patients and family members. Patients are comfortable during the pre-operative process and anesthesia initial assessment. As the evolution of healthcare continues rapidly toward the freestanding outpatient center our specialties of Neuro spine, Ortho spine, Orthopedics, Total Joint Reconstruction, General Surgery, Urology and Pain Management specialists advance care and customer service.
Surgical Institute of Alabama is currently seeking Operating Room Circulating Registered Nurses. The Operating Room Circulating Registered Nurse will promote the mission, vision, and values of SIA.
Basic Function:
The operating room staff nurse is responsible for providing therapeutic, effective patient/family-centered care according to physician order, in compliance with the philosophy of the Organization, standards of practice and regulations of governing agencies.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care by implementing:
Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes
Transfer care as applicable
Maintain radiation safety at all times in accordance with facility policies and procedures
Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care
Delegate tasks according to the state Nurse Practice Act (if applicable), state board of nursing or professional registration requirements, state laws, and job descriptions
Document episode of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly
Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders
Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care
Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects
Participate in the performance appraisal process
Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships
Maintain required competencies
Pursue professional growth
Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information
Comply with all SCA and facility policies and procedures when providing patient care
Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
At least one year of OR / surgical nursing experience preferred
Current state nursing licensure to practice in good standings
Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification

Surgical Institute of Alabama is currently seeking Surgical Technologists (Scrub Techs). Surgical Technologists (Scrub Techs) will promote the mission, vision, and values of SIA.
Basic Function:
Assists surgical team during operative procedures. Arranges and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the operating team. Assists in preparing and moving patients and in cleaning the operating theater. The OR Tech is responsible for the provision of surgical care to meet identified patient outcomes and to achieve the goals of the Organization as directed by the RN.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assists with turnover of operating room to include trash pickup, mopping of floor, assisting circulator and scrub in gathering of supplies to facilitate minimum turnover time, receives permission from circulator to return to instrument room, unless there are instruments in need of immediate turnover.
Assists in surgical procedures by retracting tissue or holding extremity.
Assists physicians with procedures.
Checks updated schedule each morning and prepares room supplies and equipment.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited surgical tech program preferred
At least one year of OR / surgical nursing experience preferred
Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
