Urology Outpatient Surgery Center

The Surgical Institute of Alabama is a premier ambulatory surgery center for Urology. Our urology experts treat urological conditions in a high-tech outpatient environment.

Cystoscopy

Cystoscopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to examine the lining of your bladder and the tube that carries urine out of your body (urethra). A hollow tube (cystoscope) equipped with a lens is inserted into your urethra and slowly advanced into your bladder.

Ureteroscopy

Ureteroscopy is a procedure that uses a ureteroscope to look inside the ureters and kidneys.  A ureteroscope is longer and thinner than a cystoscope so the urologist can see detailed images of the lining of the ureters and kidneys.

Bladder Hydrodistention

Hydrodistention is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure. A cystoscope will be inserted through the urethra into the bladder and saline will be infused to distend the bladder. This procedure is performed for those patients with small bladder capacity leading to urinary frequency/urgency.

Kidney & Bladder Stone Removal

Surgical stone treatment can vary based off your particular situation. Your surgeon will advise on the best procedure and course of treatment based off of your particular circumstances.

Urolift Procedure

The UroLift procedure is a minimally invasive approach to treating an enlarged prostate, or BPH, that lifts or holds the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way so it no longer blocks the urethra. There is no cutting, heating or removal of prostate tissue.

Male Infertility Surgery

Some causes of infertility are structural and can be corrected by surgery, frequently with outpatient or same-day procedures. For men this can include tissue biopsies, varicocele treatment, vasectomy reversal, opening the sperm ducts or extracting sperm directly from the ducts or testicles.

Circumcision

A hood of skin, called the foreskin, covers the head (or glans) of the penis. In circumcision, the foreskin is surgically removed, exposing the end of the penis. Some families choose to circumcise based on cultural or religious beliefs. Others choose to for hygiene or appearance.

Testicular Surgery

Testicular surgery is used for the treatment of structural conditions affecting the testicles. Issues such as misshapen testes, epididymis cancer, or testicular cancer are usually corrected surgically. A variety of surgical interventions can be used to repair and remove abnormalities involving the testicles.

Bladder & Prostate Resection Surgery

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a surgery used to treat urinary problems that are caused by an enlarged prostate. An instrument called a resectoscope is inserted through the tip of your penis and into the tube that carries urine from your bladder

Female Incontinence Procedures

The surgical options available to you depend on the type of urinary incontinence you have. Most options for urinary incontinence surgery treat stress incontinence. However, low-risk surgical alternatives are available for other bladder problems, including overactive bladder — also called urge incontinence or urgency-frequency syndrome.
